Birds of Jirdarup
Work is underway to produce a pocket guide to the Birds of Jirdarup. We hope to include photos and a brief description of most of the 57 birds that might be seen over the period of a year. Water birds that are only seen flying over will not be included. We plan to publish mid-2024. See our sample page for the Willie Wagtail. Photos need to be clear, including the whole bird unless an additional detailed photo of the beak or eye for instance is included.
How you can help
Already many generous people have sent us photographs of the birds in Jirdarup. What we need are photographs that can be used to clearly identify the birds. While we have many images of the photogenic Cockatoos, Rainbow Bee-eaters and New Holland Honeyeaters, there are fewer of the less colourful birds. If you would like to contribute, please contact Lesley at Lesley.vs@outlook.com or via admin@friendsofjirdarup.org.au using Bird Guide in the subject line.
Thank you to those photographers who have provided some clear shots in the last few weeks. Here is a list of the birds where we still need photos although additional photos are welcome. Naming is based on the following references:
