Planting is always popular

There is always a great turn out for planting events.

  • From the establishment of the Friends group, people have been keen to plant more vegetation. In the 2000s Eucalyptus todiana were planted near the Etwell St entrance and Friends watered them by hand with milk bottles.
  • Councll organised some direct seeding and planting along Kent Street and Baron-Hay Court.
  • Friends also planted and hand watered a small number of kangaroo paws near the entrance from the Harold Rossiter ovals in 2004. Two have survived for 20 years.
  • From 2011 to 2022, the Town planted extensively in the George Street Reserve.
  • In 2020 in partnership with the Town of Victoria Park, we planted over 2000 seedlings in the Bushland with the help of many volunteers. A hand-watering trial for new seedlings operated over the summers of 2019-2021.
  • The next year, 2021, saw a strong focus on planting around the edges of the sandpit.
  • In 2022 and 2023, the focus was on working with the Town of Victoria Park on their broader community planting program.
  • We hope to get more planting done in Jirdarup in 2024.
