PEOPLE

It takes people to make things happen.

People saved this bushland

Jirdarup would not exist if it were not for the people who have advocated for its preservation of several decades. Kensington resident, Dr Barbara Rye, was a community representative when the City of Perth developed the first Kensington Bushland Management Plan in 1993. Cathy Taylor was already advocating for the preservation of this bushland when she joined the inaugural Town of Victoria Park Council in 1994.

Cathy was instrumental in persuading Gwynth Schlipalius to establish the Friends group in 1999.

Together with other leading conservationists, they succeeded in having the area declared a Bush Forever site by the State Government in 2000.

The group is now and always has been operated entirely by volunteers who work closely with staff from the Town of Victoria Park.

Management Committee

The management committee is responsible for governance and strategy. Its operations are defined by the Rules of the Friends of Jirdarup Bushland Inc.

Our Friends

Our friends play an integral role in the promotion and stewardship of the precinct. More than 40 people have contributed to our Landcare and Community Education activities in 2023-24.

We have been supported by many organisations and individuals from Government, industry and the community.
