The Reserve is adjacent to the Jirdarup Bushland Precinct separately the bushland from Kent St Senior High School. The tree canopy provides a haven for many birds. Tawny Frogmouths, Magpies and Willie Wagtails are commonly found there as well as Black Cockatoos.

The bushland was cleared in the mid-1970s to create the sporting field.
