The Friends of Jirdarup Bushland
… working towards the preservation of Jirdarup Bushland Precinct (Kensington Bushland, George St Reserve and Kent St Sandpit) and the promotion of its importance in the community …
The Friends of Jirdarup Bushland is a community group based around Victoria Park dedicated to caring for the Precinct. Our group formed in 1999 as the Friends of Kensington Bushland and rebranded in 2020.
According to Professor Kingsley Dixon AO, Jirdarup is the most pristine and highest quality Banksia woodland remaining in inner Perth. Town of Victoria Park Mayor, Karen Vernon, describes it as the jewel in the Town of Victoria Park’s crown.
Jirdarup Bushland Precinct comprises three previously distinct but contiguous areas in East Victoria Park:
- Kensington Bushland Reserve: 10.87 ha including the 9.1 ha Bush Forever Site no. 048
- George Street Reserve: 2.7 ha undergoing revegetation since 2010
- Kent Street Sandpit: 4.33 ha restoration project in the planning phase
