Images of Jirdarup 2020

Our first nature photography competition was held during the winter and spring of 2020. It attracted entries from 260 photographers who submitted almost 800 photographs featuring aspects of Jirdarup Bushland. A shortlist of 60 photos (15 per category) were selected by the judging panel for display at the Kent Street Art Gallery. The 3-week exhibition broke all attendance records and a total of 330 votes were lodged in the People’s Choice Award.

The whole project was pulled together by a small organising team and a keen pool of Friends. We set up an online entries portal, organised early bird prizes, all the marketing, guided bushland tours, and an exclusive photography workshop for the finalists. Member Steve Bethell single-handedly found 32 sponsors, generating a $3,000 prize pool and many new supporters. The big finale was a packed out Awards Night at the Arts Centre on 20 November where Mayor Karen Vernon presented the prizes.

Special mention goes to the prize sponsors (listed below) and to the exhibition sponsors: Perth Prolab,  Ilford Australia, and the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts.
