In July 2024, we asked some of our weeders why they do it. What would you have said?
- Because you never know what else you’ll see
- I just love being in the bush
- Weeding is wonderful as not only is it so relaxing to spend 2 hours being surrounded by the wonder of the Jirdarup Bushland bird song but it enables close observation for watching new plants emerge that unfold into beautiful flowers that attract the insects so important for the Jirdarup birds.
- We are close witnesses to the marvels of nature!
- There is nothing better than sitting in a patch of bush hand weeding, breathing the air, listening to the birds, feeling the warmth of winter sun and knowing you are making a real contribution to preserving a significant example of jarrah/ banksia woodland.
- Hand weeding is an incredible way to slow down and pay attention to the minute details of the bushland. Going on a regular basis is a lovely way to see how it changes each week, the emergence of new plants and flowering of others.
- Productive, satisfying, therapeutic.
